Another primary school closed after Covid-19 case

Activities at Emmaus Primary School in Bergville were temporarily suspended after an alleged positive Covid-19 case

Advice from the Education Department is ‘brace yourselves for a peak in Covid-19 infections in schools’.

This comes after another school was temporarily closed last week.

Activities at Emmaus Primary School in Bergville were temporarily suspended after an alleged positive Covid-19 case.

A source, who did not want to be named, said that letters were sent to parents on June 24, alerting them of the positive case and advising that all learners and educators would be tested the following day.

The school was temporarily closed for disinfecting and sanitizing, as per the rules of the Health Department when a positive Covid-19 case is reported.

Education Department spokesperson Muzi Mahlambi confirmed this afternoon (June 29) that the school had closed and went on to say that the department was receiving reports of new infections daily.
