DHS enjoys the ‘new normal’

With an average attendance of more than 90%, the class of 2020 is back at school working hard to prepare themselves for the end-of-year exams

The first week back at school after lockdown was really a new experience. Wearing a mask all day and not seeing the faces of the other educators and learners just feels wrong. However, it is the right thing to do and together with the continual washing of hands (or sanitation thereof) and social distancing, the education process continues.

The Grade 12 class arrived on Monday, and new norms and routines had to be learnt.
From the screening and having their temperature taken as they enter the school grounds, to wearing a mask all day until they are back home, are now required actions. Fortunately, all at DHS adapted very quickly and the new rules have become the ‘new normal’.

With an average attendance of more than 90%, the class of 2020 is back at school working hard to prepare themselves for the end-of-year exams.

“It is interesting to see so many learners appreciate the classroom setting. Teachers are appreciated so much more and it is as if learners have started looking at teaching and learning with new eyes. “We are grateful to be back in the classroom and we are doing everything we can to maintain a safe teaching space for our learners.”

On the fun side
DHS congratulates two staff members, Mr Botha and Mrs du Plessis, for completing the 21.1km Comrades ‘Race the Legends’ virtual challenge.

It was an incredibly cold morning and many runners were seen on the road. Mr Botha managed an admirable time of 2:26.08 and Mrs du Plessis finished in 2:10.33. Well done to these avid runners!
