Two police officers test positive for Covid-19 at Estcourt SAPS

“We can confirm two police officers tested positive for Covid-19 at Estcourt South African Police Service (SAPS),” said police spokesperson Brigadier Jay Naicker this morning (June 21).

The Brigadier was responding to a media inquiry after social media was abuzz with news that the Estcourt Police Station was closed due to Covid-19 exposure.

Brigadier Naicker says that the community service center in Albert Street is currently operational.

“The affected offices are being decontaminated as per SAPS protocols and all other officials that were exposed to the police officers have been directed to undergo screening and testing as a precaution,” he added.

Residents requiring police services are advised that service delivery will not be hampered.

“The members of the community can use the same number it is still in use and all calls are diverted to the alternate venue,” concluded Brigadier Naicker.

The public is advised to call the coronavirus hotline on 0800 029 999 with any suspected cases of corona, or to report or obtain information relevant to the pandemic.
