A school in Steadville has not been able to open after level 4 lockdown due to a teacher contracting Covid-19.
The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education has released reported Covid-19 cases since the re-opening of schools on June 8. There are 36 reported cases and 28 of them have been confirmed in 10 out of 12 education districts, affecting 33 schools around KwaZulu-Natal.
Inkanyezi Special School in Steadville has not re-opened because one of the teachers has tested positive for the coronavirus (Covid-19).
According to a source close to the story, the teacher tested positive before schools re-opened on June 8. The teacher has been quarantined as per Covid-19 regulations.
The school itself has not resumed schooling activities.
Mr Muzi Mahlambi, spokesperson for the KZN Department of Education, confirmed this in a statement on June 13.

On Sunday, KZN Premier Sihle Zikalala addressed the media on the province’s Covid-19 statistics, whereby he revealed that KwaZulu-Natal has 3763 recorded cases of Covid-19.
The breakdown in the number of infections per district revealed that the uThukela District, with a population of 758,834 people, has 76 active cases.
The agricultural show grounds in Pietermaritzburg will now serve as the quarantine and isolation centre, with 254 isolation beds for Covid-19 patients. This facility will service uMgungundlovu, Harry Gwaala and uThukela District Covid-19 patients.
