uThukela unveils spring water scheme to combat Covid-19

The district municipality says there are still problems regarding water and sanitation provision

Water is a necessity all living things are dependent on. There would be no life at all on a planet with no water.
In an effort to ensure that every resident in the uThukela District has access to this precious resource, uThukela Mayor Siphiwe Mazibuko visited the Emaswazini area (Ward 4) of Bergville yesterday (June 16) to announce a spring water scheme.
The scheme is  located high up in the mountains, consisting of three static tanks, and is estimated to have cost around R490,000 to implement.
The spring water scheme draws water from the mountain spring and feeds a large part of Ward 4. As a result, people will now have access to water supply closer to their homes.
“We hope that uThukela will do the same in other areas too, as the Covid-19 pandemic has brought about new challenges, but please don’t despair,” said Deputy Mayor Ngozo of Okhahlamba Local Municipality.
The uThukela District mayor highlighted the problematic issue of water and sanitation provision, and thanked the technical team for a job well done. “We have a responsibility to service our communities all the time. Okhahlamba is rich with an abundance of water, yet there are still challenges with the supply. National government has a plan to assist the community with a reliable water supply,” said Mayor Mazibuko.
