38 primary contacts of alleged Covid-19 positive patient test negative

There was a technical problem with one of the contacts, and those results are still pending

District Command Council (DCC) chairperson Mayor Siphiwe Mazibuko, along with stakeholders, visited Ladysmith Provincial Hospital yesterday (June 3) to give moral support to staff members at the hospital.

This follows the news of an alleged Covid-19 positive patient who was in Ward 5 at the Provincial Hospital since March 16 and allegedly tested positive for the virus on May 29.

All 39 staff members who were primary contacts with the patient have been tested; 38 of whom tested negative. There was a technical problem with the remaining contact, and those results are still pending.

“To be a front-line service is not an easy task. It is a privilege for us to have such a dedicated team. Our intention is to flatten the curve of the Covid-19 pandemic. We are grateful to and wish to thank Dr Zulu (Health Department) for bringing us here to witness things ourselves. May you always grow from strength to strength in these trying times,” said uThukela Mayor Siphiwe Mazibuko.

Work stations and wards that have been prepared for the admission of Covid-19 patients were visited during the walkabout inside the hospital.
