Brisk trade as bottle stores re-open

About 8 000 liquor outlets re-opened in KZN on Monday

There was a brisk and steady flow at liquor outlets in the area that opened yesterday for the first time since March 26.

Liquor stores can open from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Thursday, with strict protocols in place to ensure social distancing and other social measures.

SAPS and SANDF personnel were seen patrolling areas near bottle stores but nothing untoward was reported.

MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs Nomusa Dube-Ncube said 11 outlets had been inspected in the Umzinyathi area all were found to be complaint.

●eThekwini:  28 inspected. 26 Compliant. 1 non-compliant. 2 outlets shut down. one in Effingham Heights and one in Avoca Hills.

●Umkhanyakude: 8 inspected. 1 non-compliant and 1 shut down

●Uthukela: 13 inspected. 10 compliant and 3 non- compliant

●Umgungundlovu District: 27 premises inspected. All compliant and 1 non-compliant;

●ILembe District: 14 premises were inspected. All of them were compliant;

●Amajuba District: 7 premises were inspected. All compliant;

●Ugu District: 10 premises were inspected. 9 compliant and 1 non-compliant;

●Amajuba District:  7 inspected. All compliant

●Umzinyathi Distruct: 11 inspected. All compliant.

In this province, about 8000 liquor license holders were open for business between 9am to 5pm.
