Vehicle licencing and testing stations will not open immediately

Transport Minister, Fikile Mbalula, said that testing stations would be checked for  adherence to the necessary hygiene and sanitation requirements.

Municipal and private licencing and testing stations won’t be opening today, Monday, June 1, when the country moves down to level 3 lockdown regulations.

“The Provincial Transport department will be conducting pre-inspection checks to ensure the safety of the people and staff this week and after that we will be able to communicate the date of opening,” the Municipality said in a statement.

On Friday, Transport Minister, Fikile Mbalula, said that testing stations would be checked for  adherence to the necessary hygiene and sanitation requirements.

All licenses and roadworthy certificates, as well as learners’, driving and temporary driving licences that expired between March 26  and May 31, are still valid. The validity period is extended by 90 days from June 1.

The validity period for motor dealers who use trade plates has been extended by six months from May 20.
