Special disciplinary committee to probe misconduct of councillors in Ladysmith

The Chief Whip was nominated as the chairperson of the committee

In order to minimise the spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19), Alfred Duma Local Municipality held a ‘virtual’ council meeting on Thursday (May 28) to discuss issues pertaining to the municipality.

Mayor Vincent Madlala also presented the final draft IDP and budget speech for 2020/2021.

Among other topics discussed at the ‘virtual’ council meeting, Alfred Duma Speaker Themba Ngubane raised the point that the rules committee had recommended that council establish a special disciplinary committee to look into the misconduct of councillors.

Three members from the ruling party and two members from opposition parties were nominated to form part of this special disciplinary committee, namely Cllr Suddaby (DA), Cllr T Njapha (ANC), Cllr Lindiwe Kubheka (ANC),  Cllr Hlomuka (ANC) and Cllr TP Dlamini (IFP).

Cllr Dlamini stated that the IFP will submit the name of their representative at a later stage.

Cllr Njapha (Chief Whip) was nominated as the chairperson of the special disciplinary committee.
