More 4 You and QuickCheck supermarkets were shut down last week Thursday following failure to adhere to lockdown regulations and lack of hygiene.
The Joint Operations Committee (JOC) on Covid-19 visited these shops last week to check if they were adhering to lockdown regulations and weren’t selling expired food.
At More 4 You, officials found expired goods on the shelves, untidiness, no floor markings for social distancing, and that the shop did not limit the number of people coming in.

QuickCheck was also found to have expired goods in their fridges. In addition, there was lack of hygiene, pest control was found to be poor, counters were not properly disinfected, and exposed wiring posed a safety risk.
The JOC shut down the shops immediately after inspection and ordered the owners to ensure that they have everything in order before re-opening. Police monitored the shops to make sure they do not open and that they call environmental health officers for an inspection before re-opening.
The JOC will continue with their drive to monitor shops in and around Vryheid for compliance.
