Ladies launch Food Donation Drive

"Assistance is needed from the Vryheid community and businesses who have the capacity to donate essential food items".

The coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic and resulting lockdown have left many families struggling to get by on a daily basis, prompting two local ladies to embark on a drive to feed those in need.
Nosipho Shelembe and Nombulelo Mtaka have teamed up, coming up with a ‘Food Donation Drive’ strategy where they collect food and give food hampers to those affected by lockdown.

“It’s not very big, but we hope that those around us can also assist in donating any essential items. Seeing that most households don’t have a source of income, we decided to co-ordinate a food drive to help families with essentials during this period. We are hoping to collect enough food to provide food parcels to a minimum of 10 families. Assistance is needed from the Vryheid community and businesses who have the capacity to donate essential food items,” said Shelembe.
The ‘Food Donation Drive’ collects canned foods, maize meal, sugar, soup packets, teabags, long-life milk, bath soap and toothpaste. Anyone willing to donate can drop off their donations at The War Room in Bhekuzulu Old Location (between Bhekuzulu Hall and Clinic) or at AbaQulusi Private Hospital (at the coffee shop). Alternatively, call Shelembe on 073-628-1513 or Mtaka on 083-271-8199.

The ‘Food Donation Drive’ aims to help those in need during lockdown.
