ANC calls for voluntary resignations

"We are hoping that those implicated will do justice and listen to their conscience by resigning voluntarily".

The ANC Mzala Nxumalo Region has called for the voluntary resignation of all those implicated in the alleged maladministration, fraud and corruption at Zululand District Municipality (ZDM).
“We are hoping that those implicated will do justice and listen to their conscience by resigning voluntarily,” said Mzala Nxumalo Regional Secretary Dr Zakhele Buthelezi in a statement.
This comes after the Department of Co-operative Governance & Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) tabled a forensic investigation report in a virtual council meeting held last week.
The ANC said it welcomed the release of the forensic investigation report in terms of Section 106 of the Local Government: Municipal Systems Act, 2000, regarding allegations of maladministration, fraud and corruption at Zululand District Municipality.
Dr Buthelezi said the ANC in the Mzala Nxumalo Region, which blew the whistle on the alleged corruption at ZDM, feels vindicated by the findings of the report conducted by CoGTA KZN.
“We have always maintained that maladministration, fraud and corruption was rife at Zululand District Municipality. Governance systems have been deliberately collapsed to serve the interests of looters. Zululand residents have been robbed of service delivery by self-centred, self-serving, greedy and corrupt individuals,” said Dr Buthelezi.
He added that, “The ANC hopes the Zululand District Municipal Council will, at least once in its term of office, do justice to the people of Zululand by expeditiously implementing the findings of the forensic report. The ANC challenges the IFP – together with their allies, the DA and the EFF – to come clean and decisively deal with all those implicated in the report. They are given an opportunity to prove that stating they are committed to clean governance is not only a slogan, but a commitment they have to the people they serve. We call upon the IFP to recall the mayor of that municipality, Cllr TD Buthelezi, even before the council sanctions such.”

African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) Mzala Nxumalo regional chairperson Sakhile Ntuli commended the CoGTA MEC for, “His commitment to fight corruption, maladministration and any other wrongdoing by a municipal official. Hlomuka reminds us what Napoleon said, ‘The world suffers a lot. Not because of the violence of bad people, but because of the silence of the good people’. On that note, as the ANCYL in Mzala Nxumalo, we demand that those implicated councillors and officials must face disciplinary action and step down in their responsibility. Lastly, it is of great importance that we expose all those who misuse State resources to enrich themselves. As the African National Congress Youth League Mzala Nxumalo, we urge the MEC to put more effort into the fight against maladministration and corruption activities in this municipality, since it denies service delivery to our people.”
