Maintenance set to shut down water supply from Spioenkop Dam

The public and industries in Ladysmith are urged to use water sparingly over this period

uThukela District Municipality is planning to switch off the Spioenkop water supply to Ladysmith today (Wednesday, May 20) at midday (12pm).

uThukela says that if all goes well, they plan to have the new electrical panels installed for the start-up at midday on Friday (May 22).

Eskom will be responsible for the switching off of the main incoming supply, while WSSA and GVD will be responsible for the installation.

The district municipality adds that it’s going to be a long stretch without water supply from Spioenkop.

“We may run short of water in certain areas. The public and industries in Ladysmith are therefore urged to use water sparingly over this time,” said communications manager Jabulani Mkhonza.

It was noted by uThukela that Acaciavale’s water supply will not be affected at all.
