After a short briefing, fieldworkers headed to Ward 12 in the Emanjokweni area to do door-to-door mass screenings. The roll-out of the large-scale testing programme aims to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Communities were asked several questions, including their travel history. Most of the people were aware of the safety precautions and hygiene practices relating to this pandemic, even though some are still skeptical.

Information pamphlets on how to prevent the spread of the virus, as well as soap bars, were distributed.

Some residents who were visited asked about food parcels and the unemployment fund that government announced will be provided.

The official from SASSA said they are currently finalising systems for the new R350 grant and will publicise the procedure and criteria soon. He also gave the WhatsApp number (060-012-3456) and advised residents to send the word ‘sassa’ or call 0800-60-1011.

Dr Zulu was pleased with the commitment and performance of the fieldworkers.
