Celebrate Limerick Day with a rhyme

Try your hand at writing a limerick today

Have you ever written a limerick?

A limerick is a special type of poem that is short but impactful and is meant to be funny.

A limerick is made up of five lines. The first two of the five lines must rhyme with the fifth line, whilst the third and fourth lines of the limerick should rhyme together.

Limerick Day is celebrated on the birthday of Edward Lear, the man credited with popularising the writing form in his book, Book of Nonsense.

Below is an example of a limerick, written with Covid-19 in mind.

We’ve been asked to stay home to stay safe
Now we can’t even buy booze or a skyf
But we are allowed to run
Which isn’t so fun
Because now my thighs have started to chafe

Why not write a limerick today and submit it to us. It can be about anything you wish. Your limerick may be published online, so get writing.
