A 19-year-old female residing in the eNdingeni area of Matiwaneskop was arrested last week Monday (May 4) after it is alleged that she placed her 10-month-old baby inside a sack and set it alight.
According to police, when family members asked her where her child was, she told them she had taken the baby to the father.
When the family contacted the father, he told them he did not have the child.

It is alleged that later the same day, the 19-year-old mother confessed to family that she had killed her baby by setting a sack alight with the baby inside it.
The family found the tiny charred remains of the baby inside a sack near the home.
The young mother was arrested and charged with murder.
She made her first court appearance on Tuesday, May 5, and her case was postponed until May 20.
A postmortem will determine whether the 10-month-old baby was dead before being allegedly set alight by the mother, or if the baby was still alive when the bag was burned.
