Covid-19 positive case emerges from Dicks Halt

10 Amajuba residents have tested positive for the coronavirus so far, and one Umzinyathi resident tested positive at a Newcastle healthcare facility last week.

Two more people tested positive for Covid-19 last week, bringing the total number of cases confirmed at healthcare facilities in the Amajuba district to nine.

One of the patients who tested positive for Covid-19 last week, was admitted to Newcastle MediClinic’s isolation ward for treatment, but has since been discharged and instructed to self-isolate at home. The District Task Team has since confirmed that, while this patient’s Covid-19 test results were confirmed at a health care facility in Amajuba, the patient actually resides in the Umzinyathi District.

The other patient travelled to Amajuba from Johannesburg at the start of the lockdown, and has been residing in Dicks Halt (just outside oSizweni) since then. The patient requested a Covid-19 test at a private laboratory in Newcastle after developing flu-like symptoms, and is also self-isolating at home after his test results confirmed that he is infected with the coronavirus.

In addition to the eight Amajuba residents who tested positive at local healthcare facilities, there are two residents who tested positive for the coronavirus at healthcare facilities outside the district (one at MediClinic Pietermaritzburg and one at Entabeni Hospital). Therefore, there are 10 Amajuba residents who have tested positive for the deadly virus altogether.

To date, Newcastle MediClinic has had two positive results out of the 244 Covid-19 tests done at the hospital. Currently, there is one person under investigation who is admitted to the hospital’s isolation ward. This patients is still awaiting their test results.
