The Joint Operations Committee (JOC) on Covid-19 in AbaQulusi is continually making strides to stop the virus from spreading.
They recently fumigated households in densely-populated areas such as Dumpsite, Ma300, Boyana and Kwagxoba, as well as the streets in these areas. A total of eight people were recruited under EPWP to assist with the sanitizing.
According to Acting Mayor Mncedisi Maphisa, the JOC also distributed soap. “We also made sure that JoJo tanks are still in good condition; our water tankers still refill the tanks. We are trying our level best to fight this pandemic with the limited resources we have.”

He said that the JoJo tanks were filled twice a week in all these areas, except for Ma300, which is refilled three times a week due to high demand of water.
Furthermore, Municipal Manager Bonga Ntanzi said they will erect mobile ablution facilities in informal settlements, as well as in farming communities.
“We will have to get permission from farm owners before we put these ablution facilities up in farming communities. Because those areas are private areas, we will have to discuss with farm owners first,” said Ntanzi.
He indicated that in the reprioritisation of MIG, a budget of not more than R6 million had to be channelled to ‘Emergency’ and this includes the mobile ablution facilities.
“We have submitted the business plan to the department and we are positive that it will be approved soon, so we can start putting up these facilities,” he added.
