Police and Public Safety continue to enforce the law

The officers checked to see if motorists had driver's licences and if vehicles were roadworthy

Police and Public Safety officers conducted a roadblock today (May 7) along Helpmekaar Road.

The officers checked to see if commuters had driver’s licences and if their vehicles were roadworthy. Regarding public transport, the law enforcers checked if taxi drivers were keeping to the lockdown regulation of having 70% passengers in their taxis.

Also on the check-list was ascertaining if everyone was wearing a face mask, including passengers using public transport. Government set down this regulation, stating that as of May 1, 2020, all passengers will not be allowed onto public transport without a face mask.

People are urged to prevent the spread of Covid-19 by staying at home as much as possible, keeping a safe distance from one another (metre and a half), washing and sanitizing their hands often, covering their mouths when coughing or sneezing, and wearing a face mask.
Police officers will continue to patrol all streets in and around Ladysmith.
