Lockdown gave Michele her first holiday in 47 years

Michele also remembers the 1980s in Dundee when the shop was packed with those eager to drop off their dry cleaning.

Small local businesses have taken a huge knock since the lockdown regulations that came into effect on March 27 prevented those only providing essential services from trading.
The iconic Dundee Book Exchange and Dry Cleaners on Gladstone Street is one such business. While the business can open tentatively, with the lockdown easing to level 4, like all small enterprises, they will find the going very rough in the months ahead.
The only positive owner Michele Fleischman got out of the level 5 lockdown was that she enjoyed her first ‘holiday’ in 47 years.

“My mother, Joan Hudson, bought the business in 1973 and I have been there pretty much since. Except for the odd day off here and there and at Christmas time I have just realised that I have never taken a break from the shop – well not an extended one like this one!”
