Covid-19: No social distancing during grant collection

People were standing right next to each other, chatting away merrily

Hundreds of people flocked into town to collect their social grants on Wednesday (May 6). Long queues of people were seen at banks around town.

However, in most of these queues, there was no social distancing. People were standing right next to each other, chatting away as if they had not a care in the world.

As we all know, the country (and indeed the world) is currently faced with the Covid-19 pandemic and hence the South African government has urged people to practice social distancing as one of the precautionary measures to avoid contracting the virus. The coronavirus can easily spread from one person to the next through small droplets in the air when people cough or sneeze, or even just breathe.
