Slow removal of lockdown depends on the community, says mayor

Spreading the president's message throughout the district

As the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic intensifies, the District Command Centre (led by its chairperson, Mayor AS Mazibuko) joined the Inkosi Langalibalele Local Command screening programme in Wembezi Township on Friday (April 24). During the programme, the mayor took time out to speak about the president’s message…
Highlighting the president’s state-of-the-nation Covid-19 address on Thursday evening, District Mayor Mazibuko warned that the president had said that the lockdown’s slow removal relies much on residents’ behaviour. He said that if people observe lockdown regulations, then things can get back to normal sooner.
“The numbers are not decreasing drastically, but we are managing to flatten the curve. We have to intensify our education campaigns through various media platforms in order to educate and inform our people,” the mayor explained.
He also passed his gratitude to all field workers, saying that the work done by the district is highly appreciated by the province.
They then spent the rest of the day screening residents in the area.
