Health MEC accuses DA of ‘point scoring’ following babies death

MEC labels the DA as being soulless and selfish

The Health MEC, Nomagugu Simelane-Zulu, has hit out at the DA after the party’s allegations following the death of a baby at the Dundee Hospital.

” Firstly, the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health sends its condolences to the family of a mother from Dundee, following her unsuccessful pregnancy.
The Department, nevertheless, rejects a hastily-written and misleading media statement by the DA, in which it makes a number of unproven allegations and premature conclusions about the clinical management of this patient,” a statement from the MEC read.

“The fact that the DA has, once again, sought to use this tragedy to grand-stand and cast aspersions on the Department, its staff and systems, without establishing the facts, speaks volumes about the party’s shallow, soulless, and selfish nature.”

The MEC further added that preliminary information received by her department directly contradicted allegations made by the party.

“It is highly regrettable that the DA has typically chosen to politicise this matter, without any regard for the potential long-term psychological repercussions for the mother concerned,” the statement concluded.
