After consultation with uThukela health practitioners, it was advised that this solution is currently the most affordable and reliable for the programme.

The area outside the Estcourt police station is cleaned up.

“The aim is to disinfect areas against the virus. It’s a daily programme that seeks to cover areas where people converge or gather for either grant collection or commuting via public transport, and shelters for the homeless,” explained Municipal Manager Patrick Mkhize.

Thus far, sanitizing has taken place in the entire central business district (CBD) and taxi ranks. The team intends to cover all areas within the municipal boundary.

The road is sanitized in Harding Street, outside the post office.

“It should be noted that the programme is in its initial stages. We are operating with one team and currently limited in terms of resources. The municipality is in the process of establishing at least three teams with the aim of having regular sanitizing of the affected areas on a daily basis. This is, however, subject to availability of resources, but the municipality is determined to achieve this objective with the aim of limiting infection rates of the public from this pandemic,” concluded Mr Mkhize.
