A sharp, sudden downpour in the area late yesterday afternoon saw rainfall of up to 50mm measured in the district.
The strong wind brought down several trees, but no serious damage was reported. Lightning did strike a palm tree on Bulwer Street and set the fronds on fire, but the flames were later extinguished with the help of the downpour.
