District says water restrictions are still in effect

Water-shedding has continued, leaving many residents fuming.

Residents have voiced their concerns over continued water cuts, in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Water restrictions were lifted for a short amount of time, as heavy rains strengthened the flow of the Buffalo River. However, load-shedding soon ensured these were implemented once again.

Now, with load-shedding a thing of the past and the Covid-19 threat gripping the world, residents are questioning why there is still no constant supply of water. Umzinyathi District Municipality has responded by reminding residents that water restrictions are still in place.

“Please be aware that water-shedding is still being implemented to preserve water for the coming winter months.”

It explained water will be shut off from 10am to 1pm daily and from 9pm until 4am in the morning. Residents are also urged to report leaking and burst pipes during lockdown to 034 212 2222.

“Please use water sparingly as the drought is not over as yet,” concluded the municipality’s statement.
