Scammers take advantage of virus fears

The banking provider has issued a warning after scammers began using Covid-19 to con clients.

Standard Bank South Africa has issued an urgent warning to customers, to avoid falling for fraudulent SMSes and emails doing the rounds.

The warning comes after scammers began using the Covid-19 pandemic to trick unsuspecting customers, using an SMS or email with links to fake banking websites.

Information in the messages relate to the coronavirus strain and encourages clients to copy and paste a link to continue banking online, and thus avoid visiting a bank physically during this time.

Standard Bank SA has urged clients to delete scam messages immediately, and contact the banking provider on 086 012 3000 for queries.
