Ladysmith ‘car sound’ family cranks up the decibels

When you enter their home, you are greeted with hundreds of trophies in cabinets

Sathar Khan is a well-known name around the province and the country when it comes to earth-rattling sound systems in motor vehicles.

Sathar smiles as he explains that his passion for car sound started many moons ago and seems to have spread around the town to many other enthusiasts.

In 2005, his team was part of an IASCA event where they managed to break the SA record with a massive 153.9dbs in the Stock 2 Class. They also held Nitro Crew SA records in 2017/2018.

Sathar has held numerous successful events in the Northern KwaZulu-Natal area, including Ladysmith, where he has helped youngsters to grow and develop in the sport.

Over the years, Sathar and his team have had many vehicles that have cranked up the decibels in sound competition events. Lately, Sathar’s sons – Muzakheer (15), Husnain (12) and Husain (8) – have claimed first place trophies in competitions with their Opel Corsa under the Mason’s Car Audio banner.

Following in their father’s footsteps, Sathar’s sons – especially the eldest, Muzakheer – are already setting up vehicles and wiring them for car sound competitions.

Sathar ends off by saying that ‘car sound’ shouldn’t only be about winning, but about having fun with family and friends at these events.

Sathar is planning to put on a huge event in town later this year, so you’d better get your vehicle’s sound system in tip-top condition.
