Show of force in Dundee as authorities enforce lockdown

Local and national authorities have been hard-pressed to keep people at home.

Screaming sirens, flashing lights and a convoy of SAPS, traffic and private security vehicles are patrolling the should-be empty streets of Endumeni, in a bid to ensure the national 21-day lockdown regulations are adhered to. The lockdown is now in its third day.

While residents have been asked to stay at home in a bid to stem the spread of Covid-19, members of the public are allowed to go into shops to buy necessities such as food and medication. It is after sunset however, that authorities have found residents are trying to ‘take chances’.

Several liquor outlets have been raided for flouting the regulations. A party was also broken up at Coronation Park on Saturday evening, by the convoy of authorities patrolling throughout the municipal area.

Motorists casually driving around have also been pulled over. SAPS has urged all residents to heed to President, Cyril Ramaphosa’s call to stay at home. A group of SANDF soldiers have been accommodated in Glencoe to assist SAPS at roadblocks.

Several people are expected to appear in court tomorrow for breaking the regulations. Admission of guilt fines must still be confirmed in the area.
