Ladysmith surgeon in quarantine for Covid-19

He was exposed to patients who have tested positive for the coronavirus

A Ladysmith surgeon is in quarantine after being exposed to patients who have tested positive for Covid-19. He is the second doctor today (March 28) to go into self-imposed isolation. It is important to note that the surgeon, unlike the first doctor, is not Covid-19 positive, as he is still waiting for his test results.

The doctor took a Covid-19 test today.

We will update you with more information once we know more.

Just a reminder to please sanitize, use your masks and gloves, and wash your hands regularly.

The doctor posted the following on social media:

Kindly allow me the use of your forum to release a statement, before the rumor mill starts turning.
I, Nilesh Nair, specialist Surgeon in private practice hereby confirm that I am in 2 weeks quarantine. I have been exposed to positive Covid-19 patients. I have had my test today (28/3/2020). I am ASYMPTOMATIC and did the test due to the contact and the fact that I’m a health care worker. Please note that according to NICD guidelines, I should NOT even have had the test done. Nonetheless, the results are pending and I will officially inform the public should I be positive, so that those I have been in direct contact with could be even more vigilant. In the meantime, follow the government regulations and orders and stay safe. Remember, if you are a contact of a contact, you are low risk, so isolate, sanitize and watch for symptoms.(sic)
Thank you. Nilesh Nair
