The reason why Ladysmith residents are yet again battling with dry taps

Umgeni Water say that the problem relating to power supply failures is outside of their control

Today (March 26), many residents are yet again without water in different areas of Ladysmith and are demanding to know why they are sitting with ‘dry taps’.

According to the Umgeni Water head office, at least four electricity supply interruptions were experienced at the Ezakheni Water Treatment Works in the past 48 hours. The plant is operated by Umgeni Water.

The electricity supply interruptions occurred on the Eskom supply line, and impacted on raw water abstraction and potable water production at the plant.

Due to the power failures, the plant was not able to operate at an optimum level, resulting in reduced potable water supply to the two receiving reservoirs, namely Aasvoelkop and Abattoir.

Some areas in Ladysmith that are supplied by these reservoirs have been affected.

Potable water production at the Ezakheni Water Treatment Works is now back to normal, following the restoration of power. Umgeni Water say that the problem relating to power supply failures is outside of their control.

Umgeni Water add that they fully understand consumers’ concerns over absence of water supply and they apologise for the inconvenience caused.
