Newcastle exec leads global talks on African development

"I am still to embark upon more adventures... to promote innovative African solutions for African problems."

Newcastle-born Nonjabulo Gumede (27) is at the forefront of conversations about identity politics in Africa.

Through her Travel for Change Adventures social enterprise, Nonjabulo is taking the world by storm and seeking to examine African development and matters of policy.

“I was selected to represent South Africa at the Global Peace Summit which took place in Malaysia, from February 26 to 29, to discuss peace education, global citizenship and youth development, with young leaders and peace advocates around the world.”

For her speech on inclusiveness and African development, Nonjabulo earned the title of Best Delegate Female Speaker.

“This year, I am still to embark upon more adventures around the continent, to promote innovative African solutions for African problems,” she concluded.

Nonjabulo Gumede is adamant about changing the world through her knowledge.

Nonjabulo matriculated from Ferrum High School in 2010, and continued her studies at the University of Witwatersrand towards a BA Law degree, majoring in Political Science and International Relations, as well as a LLB degree.

She is a Regional Leadership Centre alumni for the Young African Leaders Initiative, and a fellow at the Young Innovation Leaders Fellowship, Nigeria. Nonjabulo is also the Executive Director of Hutzpah Consulting, which deals with innovation, learning and leadership.
