SPCA Newcastle offices closed until further notice

"We would also like to reassure [residents] that all animals currently at the facility will be well cared for."

The doors of the SPCA’s local branch have closed temporarily, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The society’s Heather Gero explained, “In this time of crisis, we call on all of our residents in the community to act responsibly when it comes to the welfare of all animals. We would also like to reassure them that all animals currently at the facility will be well cared for.”

Residents are still encouraged to contact the SPCA in the event of an emergency on 072 337 0347, and for any stray animal matters, contact the municipal pound on 034 328 7757.

The Covid-19 crisis and the pending lockdown will also have financial implications on the SPCA. This is due to the impact on its two biggest sources of income, the parlour and boarding kennels.

“We are in desperate need of the community’s support, to ensure sustainability of the society.”

Residents who can make a donation to the SPCA can also make use of an electronic funds transfer (EFT). Details are as follows:

Bank – ABSA

Branch code – 632 005

Account number – 10558 70701

Account name – SPCA Fundraising.
