Covid-19 Ladysmith: 3 municipal staff sent home after travelling abroad

The municipality appeals for calm and municipal officials are encouraged not to panic

Alfred Duma Local Municipality confirms in a circular to all municipal employees that management is aware of three municipal officials who have travelled abroad recently.

As a precautionary measure, all three employees have been interviewed and were sent home to consult medical practitioners for screening and testing for the coronavirus.

In liaison with the Department of Health, the municipality has requested that the Department of Health visits the municipality to track and trace other municipal employees who may have been in close contact with the three municipal officials / employees for the purpose of assessing the risk.

At this stage, the municipality appeals for calm within the municipality, saying that officials should not panic.

As per the directive of the Department of Health, the three employees have been sent home and will remain in self-imposed isolation for 14 days pending the outcome of their medical tests. Should the results prove negative, they will return to work.

All municipal officials and public representatives who have travelled abroad recently are urged to report to the Executive Director: Corporate Services for immediate assistance and intervention as a preventative and precautionary measure.

The public is advised to call the coronavirus hotline on 0800029999 with any suspected cases of corona, or report or obtain information relevant to the pandemic.
