Three busloads of Coin-It supporters have arrived in Pietermaritzburg for today’s court hearing, which will determine if the investment company will be liquidated or not.
Chanting and waving placards in support of the de Beer family, who founded Coin-It from the head office in Dundee, the supporters are adamant the court must not allow the company to be liquidated and should be allowed to continue trading.
Trading was stopped in September last year, when the Financial Sector Conduct Authority declared the scheme illegal due to it not being registered. Investors had complained their returns started drying up from July last year.
Judge, Poyo Dlwati is presiding over the matter and the gallery is packed with those both for and against the liquidation of the company.
