DHS athletes selected for Umzinyathi District team

These athletes will represent the district at the KwaZulu-Natal athletics meet in Durban later this year.

DHS has proudly announced which athletes were selected to represent Umzinyathi in the KwaZulu-Natal athletics meet in Durban later this year.

Congratulations to Anele Sangweni, Siphesihle Sikhakhane, Asanda Thungo, Andiswa Zama, Keano Milne, Zinita Oosthuizen, Juandre van der Merwe, Thandolwethu Biyela, Hein Muller, Isak Muller, Siyanda Mtshali, Winnie Lungu and Lulama Ndebele.

Great rugby kicks off season
On Saturday (February 22), the rugby teams took part in the Sarel Cilliers Rugby Festival. It was an exciting day filled with lots of talent and great games. The under-14s won the game against Estcourt and the u-16s unfortunately lost against Voortrekker High. The first team had a great game, with many exciting phases keeping spectators on the edges of their seats, and won the game 34-10.

Pre-season netball tournament
The netball girls had a lot of fun at the weekend while visiting Ferrum in Newcastle, and had a chance to get to know each other as a team. It was an action packed day, where the young women played against Epworth, Newcastle High, Sarel, Pionier and Ferrum. Congratulations to Penny Parmissar for receiving the title of Player of the Tournament. DHS is extremely excited to see what the 2020 season has in store for its first netball team.

Chelmsford Challenge
Congratulations to the following learners who completed the 500-metre swim: Jessica Tredoux, Tatum Tosen, Jade Prinsloo, Amy Mordaunt and Philippa Lee. Congratulations to the following swimmers, who completed the 1km (1000m) swim: Hamish Grierson, Jordan von Rauenstein, Karla van Eeden (teacher), Michael van der Merwe and Dremar Jacobs.
