Stolen furniture destined for beyond the border was seized by a Vryheid police task team recently.
On February 8 and 9, a farmhouse just outside of Vryheid was broken into.
Suspects reportedly gained entry through a window and a door.
The occupants of the house opened a case of burglary at Vryheid SAPS, after finding their possessions had been stolen.
Last Monday, a multidisciplinary team consisting of police officers from the various units in Vryheid, received a lead regarding suspects who were allegedly involved in the farm burglary. The team proceeded to Bhekuzulu, when they witnessed three suspects loading furniture onto a bakkie and trailer. After monitoring the vehicle, the task team intercepted it on the R69.
The occupants of the vehicle could not provide a satisfactory explanation to the SAPS officials, as to how they came to be in possession of the furniture, and failed to produce the necessary documentation to prove ownership.
An investigation was launched and it was determined the furniture had been stolen from the farmhouse earlier in the month.
Another three suspects were arrested thereafter.
Police officials claimed the furniture was being transported to a neighbouring country.
SAPS KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula commended the combined team for the swift arrests.
He continued, “The speedy response and investigation by police officers in Vryheid prevented the stolen goods from leaving the country. Recent breakthroughs regarding cross-border crimes have led to many criminals being arrested.”
