Rapist ‘monster’ sentenced to life imprisonment

"It is very comforting to know this monster is behind bars where he belongs."

On February 11, justice was served when 27-year-old Sihle Sadamu Sikhankhane was sentenced to life imprisonment at the Vryheid Regional Court.
Sikhankhane was found guilty of raping a 33-year-old woman in 2015, while she was walking along the Dundee/Vryheid road to purchase medication for her child at a nearby garage.
She was approached by her attacker, who forced her into an overgrown area and raped her.
Sikhankhane also robbed the woman of jewellery before fleeing the scene of crime.
In handing down the sentence during trial proceedings, the presiding magistrate further declared Sikhankhane was unfit to possess a firearm. The SAPS KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula commended detectives from the Vryheid Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for ensuring the accused was prosecuted.
He concluded, “It is very comforting to know this monster is behind bars where he belongs. This sentence sends a clear message that crimes against women and children will not be tolerated.”
