Summit focuses on conservation and environmental development

The community of Winterton was educated about climate change and other environmental concerns

The KZN Legislature and Ezemvelo Wildlife held a Conservation & Environmental Development Summit on February 7 at Khethani Hall in Winterton, under Okhahlamba Local Municipality.

The purpose of the summit is to improve responsible environmental management strategies and plans. It also seeks to promote and facilitate integrated environmental management through capacity building and awareness raising programmes or projects.

Okhahlamba Local Municipality Mayor M Ndlangisa welcomed members of the Legislature, councillors and the community at large. He said the summit itself also aims to educate the community about climate change.

There are also projects that will create jobs for the community, such as invasive plant clearing and termite eradication projects.

The Operation Vula funding scheme seeks to ensure that adequate support is provided for the establishment and promotion of emerging enterprises, which include SMMEs and co-operatives.
