A man, believed to be in his 30s, was shot on Friday evening (February 14) during a botched armed robbery near the Estcourt Ultra City on the N3 northbound. The man had stopped when two men approached his vehicle and tried to rob him. He was shot as he attempted to escape. He managed to flee and sped to the relative safety of the Tugela Toll Plaza, where he raised the alarm.
When ER24 paramedics arrived at the Tugela Toll Plaza shortly before 8.30pm, they found the police and other local authorities already at the scene. Upon further assessment, paramedics found the man still seated in his vehicle.
According to an ER24 media statement, the man sustained a gunshot wound to the thigh.
ER24 treated and stabilised the man at the scene, before transporting him to hospital for further medical care.
