Three dogs from the Drakensview area tested positive for temik poisoning today. Two of the dogs were found dead and one more is being treated at the Estcourt Veterinary Clinic.

Local vet Dr Delon Alwar said that post mortems were conducted on both dead dogs and temik was found.
Temik is a pesticide that is used in agriculture and is fast becoming a preferred choice of poisoning methods for burglars.
“Temik resembles fine black granules and is usually placed into meat or food and offered to the dog. The dog has to eat it to be poisoned. The symptoms include vomiting, diarrhoea, muscle spasms, seizures and the animal collapses. The dog needs to get to the vet as soon as possible,” explained Dr Alwar.
He urges locals to keep an eye on their pets and keep them inside during the night, if possible.
