Joseph Shabalala claimed that he heard the vocal harmonies the group became famous for in a dream one night

Joseph Shabalala, the founder of the Ladysmith Black Mambazo super-group, touched countless hearts with his music and the country is devastated with the sad news of his death this morning (February 11).

Joseph Headman Shabalala was born on August 28, 1941, and was a member of the internationally-renowned South African vocal group Ladysmith Black Mambazo. He was well-known for his unique bass vocals.

Joseph Shabalala, who claimed that he heard the vocal harmonies the group became famous for in a dream, formed Ladysmith Black Mambazo in 1960. He recruited his brothers, Headman and Joseph, and his cousins Albert and Abednego Mazibuko.

From there, the group took the country by storm with their music and has since won many Grammy Awards.
