Amajuba District’s Class of 2019 excels at academics

"We continue to be humbled by the efforts of the educators, learners, parents and all relevant stakeholders."

Hard work and excellence through education was celebrated and honoured, when the Amajuba District Municipality, in partnership with the Department of Education, hosted Excellence Awards for the Grade 12 Class of 2019. This prestigious event took place at the Richview Civic Hall on January 31.

This annual event intended to recognise the efforts and dedication of matrics. The biggest winner on the day was Andiswa Zulu from Zama High School. Andiswa took the first position in the Amajuba District Best Top 10 Learners. She was recently recognised by the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education, during the announcement of the Provincial Grade 12 results.

The award for the Best Performing School in the Amajuba District went to Zama High School. The school recorded the highest number of learners who passed their Grade 12, and the highest number of learners who obtained Bachelor passes. Overall, the school achieved 97,8 per cent pass rate.

In handing over the awards, Mayor of Amajuba District Municipality, Dr Musa Ngubane thanked all those who contributed towards the great 2019 academic year, noting the district took position two in KZN and was not far off from first position:

“We continue to be humbled by the efforts of the educators, learners, parents and all relevant stakeholders. We understand what we celebrate today represents the efforts of various people. We wish to thank you all. We are also encouraged by the local companies who committed their resources towards the Excellence Awards.”

The district municipality also recognised local companies, who made contributions towards the execution of the event by sponsoring tokens received by the candidates, and also assisted with the logistical arrangements of the event.
