Suspects hijack truck on Harding Street

It is alleged the victim had parked the truck, when he and his passenger were approached by the three suspects.

Newcastle Detectives is currently investigating a case of hijacking, which occurred on Harding Street at about 8.30pm on January 31.

It is alleged the victim had parked his truck on a street in the CBD, when he and his passenger were approached by three unknown males. SAPS spokesperson, Captain Jabulani Ncube said one of the three suspects withdrew a firearm and aimed at the truck occupants.

“They were tied with ropes and forced to lie behind the driver’s seat. They [the suspects] drove with the truck which had a full load of chicken at the back. They drove with them and offloaded the chicken somewhere at the Newcastle taxi rank.”

It was reported the suspects then drove the truck to an isolated location. The driver and passenger were then threatened by the suspects, who said they were watching them.

“When they [the victims] saw no movement, they managed to untie themselves. The suspects also took the victims’ belongings,” concluded Cpt Ncube.

The suspects are still at large and police investigations continue.
