Christmas lights stay on in Ladysmith as we head into February

People are urged to use electricity sparingly in this time of load-shedding, but Santa Claus is still lit up in Murchison Street

As we head into the month of love (February), Christmas should be a thing of the past… but is it?

Two months into the new year, Christmas decorations are still up in Murchison Street and are burning bright each and every night. Residents are now asking: Is the municipality still in the grip of Xmas fever, are they just forgetful, or couldn’t they be bothered to take down the December decorations?

People are always being urged to use electricity sparingly in a time when load-shedding is a major problem in the country. However, the municipality doesn’t seem too worried about wasting electricity, as a large number of streetlight poles are adorned with Christmas lights that are lit up for no rhyme or reason well into the new year.

People in town are hoping the municipality will remove these lights to save the ratepayers some money.
