Sarel challenges Sarel on the athletics field

Learners participated in field events such as shot-put, high jump, long jump, discus and javelin.

From January 29 to 31, Sarel Cilliers High School held its annual Inter House Athletics: Cilliers vs Maree; Blue vs Yellow.

On the Wednesday and Thursday, learners participated in field events such as shot-put, high jump, long jump, discus and javelin. The real fun started on Friday however. The Grade 8 learners had to show off their team spirit, and were judged by the rest of the school.

Once the whole school approved, the singing started and so did the rest of the day’s events. Up first was the 1 500 metres and the day ended off with the relays, which caused great excitement.

The highlight of the day was when the seniors raced however. It is safe to say Sarel Cilliers has a couple of star athletes on the team. The day ended in true Sarel spirit, when the seniors gave Siyabonga Khumalo a chance to run the 100m race.

“It was amazing to see how caring the learners truly are. It was a day filled with fun, laughter and most importantly, bonding.”

Mariam Khan gracefully throws the discus.
Leonard Kruger enthusiastically attempts the long jump.

Action cricket: The Sarel Cilliers Action Cricket team took on the Gorillas last Friday night. Mikyle Bhartu and Teagan Pillay were the best batsmen of the evening, with Teagan also performing in the bowling attack together with Jarren Theron. Sarel Cilliers scored 133 runs, but unfortunately the Gorillas took the game with 177 runs in total.
