Busted on bus trip with bags of dagga

Police made the arrest after receiving a tip-off that a man was taking dagga to Gauteng

A 47-year-old man’s bus trip was cut short when police busted him with bags full of dagga recently.

He was seated in a bus when Nancy, a highly-trained police dog, ruined his journey. When he spotted police approaching the vehicle, he must have feared that his luck had run out. The nightmare became a reality when police stopped the bus and requested to search his bags.

A large quantity of dagga was found in his possession. The man was arrested and the drugs were seized.

Ladysmith police and K9 Unit officers made the arrest after receiving a tip-off that a man was taking dagga to Gauteng.

The officers, together with Nancy the dog, proceeded to the terminals and were informed that the bus had already left. They followed the bus and pulled it over on the N3, before conducting a search.

The suspect appeared in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday (January 29).

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula, applauded the police officers for thwarting the man’s plans to ‘smuggle’ dagga to another province, where innocent lives would’ve been destroyed by these drugs.
