Theft a ‘low blow’ to Newcastle SPCA

"We have taken the necessary precautions before. This was only a temporary solution to the problem..."

Crime has caused more misfortune for the SPCA, with its facility broken into and ransacked over the weekend.

“We are a nonprofit organisation, and to face problems such as break ins and burglaries is a low blow for our society,” said the SPCA’s Heather Gero.

The Newcastle Advertiser visited the scene of the crime today (Tuesday). SPCA Inspector, Suveshin Naidoo explained the culprits had found an easy access point just on the border of the facility.

“We have taken the necessary precautions before. This was only a temporary solution to the problem; we had hoped this incentive would keep thieves out, but unfortunately it has proven to be unsuccessful.”

The incident is currently under investigation by SAPS.
