Madadeni rapist sentenced to life imprisonment

The suspect was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Madadeni Regional Court on January 22.

A 24-year-old man will spend the rest of his life behind bars after being found guilty for rape and assault.

Nkosinathi Masuku (24) was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Madadeni Regional Court on January 22.

It is believed in November 2016, a female victim (38) was approached by Masuku at her home in Dicks Halt, Madadeni.

Under the pretense of offering her a pack of cigarettes, the suspect entered the home, locked the door and proceeded to assault and rape her several times.

“He used a condom the first time, and later he did not use a condom,” reported SAPS Spokesperson, Captain Jabulani Ncube.

According to the complainant, she had fainted and the suspect used rope to tie her up.

The victim regained consciousness and informed the neighbours she was attacked.

“A case of rape was opened in Madadeni and transferred to Newcastle FCS for investigations. The case was later filed undetected.”

In February 2017, another case of rape was reported and the suspect was arrested as he was known to the complainant.

The case was later withdrawn at court as the complainant passed away due to natural causes.

The suspect’s samples were taken to the laboratory, and identified him as Nkosinathi Masuku, who was linked to the rape case in 2016.

The suspect was tracked down and arrested in February 2018. His bail application was successfully opposed until he was sentenced on January 22 to life imprisonment on charges of rape and assault.
