Sarel Cilliers celebrates a year of new beginnings

Two Sarel Cilliers matrics were placed in fourth and fifth position in the Endumeni circuit.

On January 8, Sarel Cilliers High School was filled with teachers and learners awaiting the final results. There was immense excitement when the news of the school’s incredible 94,6 per cent pass rate was announced.

Overall, with this impressive matric pass rate, Sarel Cilliers was placed second-best in the Endumeni circuit behind Ebusi (which had a 100 per cent pass rate).

Two of Sarel Cilliers’ top achievers were placed in fourth and fifth position in the Endumeni circuit and 90,5 per cent of its learners qualify to study at tertiary institutions.

Hoërskool Sarel Cilliers is baie trots op André: “Jy is ‘n ster, doen so voort!”

Sarel learners make it count – Sarel Cilliers topped the South African Mathematics Olympiad 2019, earning the title of Top Performing School in Quintile 4 in KZN. With around 112 000 learners participating in Round 1, followed by 19 821 in Round 2, Sarel’s very own mathematician, Shravan Mangaldeen scooped awards for being the Top Performing Junior Learner in Quintile 4 for Round 3 and making the Top 10 Junior Learners in KZN, placing fourth internationally and receiving a bronze medal and voucher for his excellent achievement.

Ayush Ramdutt was in the Top 3 Senior Learners in Quintile 4 in KZN. Three other learners, Lusanda Zondi, Asimdumise Zwane and Andre Niemand obtained positions in Top 3 Junior Learners in KZN (Quintile 4).

To new beginnings – The start of a new school year is always exciting. Sarel Cilliers has a wonderful group of Grade Eights starting a new phase of their school career and the school extends a warm welcome to every one of them: “Enjoy your time at Sarel Cilliers and all the best for 2020.”

Sarel sadly bade farewell to Mrs Coetzee, Mrs de Swardt, Mrs Heroux, Mrs van Zuydam and Mrs Menelaou at the end of last year. The school wishes them all the best for their new adventures. On a happier note, Sarel heartily welcomed new staff members and looks forward to many happy years with them on board.
